Mark Penn founder of Help the Homelezz took on the challenge of sleeping rough in Goole’s precinct in the cold December weather for 48hrs to raise funds for our cause and awareness of local homelessness. Having once been homeless himself he knew how hard this would be. He began at 9.30 on a Friday morning and remained in the town centre in a un-used shop doorway until Sunday morning. The weather conditions were absolutely freezing, equipped with just a sleeping bag, quilt and the clothes on his back the only food and drinks he had were donated by kind passers by.

Both Calendar News and Look North came to speak to Mark along with Viking Radio and the Goole Times all giving Help the Homelezz and the cause much needed coverage which we are really thankful for. The residents of Goole were overwhelming with their support and donations. Thanks also to Goole Town Council. Cold and aching Mark wanted to express his thanks to everyone that has supported, donated and stopped to speak with him.

“My saddest moment is knowing that I can leave and go home but hundreds of homeless cannot. I will continue to push to make people aware of the homelessness in our town and area and hope that Help the Homelezz can build links with ERYC to help those in need”.
